Katie Eary Press Day
Me and my boyfriend attended Katie Eary’s Press day at the Wyld Bar – W Hotel on monday for her AW12/13 collection ‘King Night’. It’s times like this when i really think that i should invest in a good quality camera U_U. The images were taken using my boyfriends iphone ^_^. I’d never been to a press day before so this was a pretty big deal for me, especially as it was for my one of my favourite designers. Complimentary Champagne and a warm welcome from Katie herself made us feel very comfortable. We were allowed to look/try on at the collection and just have fun with it. Then we were taken to a screening of her film collaboration with Rankin (here). Afterwards we chatted to some of Katie’s team and other people who also attended, we were a little shy and i didn’t speak to as many people as i’d have liked to but i felt lucky just being there ^_^. And of course the Champagne helped a little!
The collection itself was beautiful, from the customised New Era caps/Nike Air force ones to the fur sweatshirts and parkas.The militant mock crock coats, the mohair backpack and the bewitching gloves all lend themselves to the ‘twisted fairytale army’ aesthetic. The pieces were all so strong and defined, my personal favourite was a mock croc panelled sweatshirt. The panelled detailing throughout to the whipstitched leather created a futuristic essence. The palette of the collection was rich and dark, from petrol blacks to monochromatic furs.
The mens shoes were Nike air force ones customised with leather,feathers and hair.I was lucky enough to try on a pair of the ones adorned with feathers and bound with leather! Unfortunately my head was too big for any one the new era caps ;( although they were amazing. I tried on a leather rucksack and it was surprisingly comfortable for how big it was. All in all the collection was beautifully designed and constructed.
PS. I wore my Cat tee to the event and Katie gave me an up to date label to sew into the back of it! =^_^=
