Bulgaria – Sunny Beach – Barcelo Royal Beach

For May half term me and some of my friends visited the Barcelo Royal Beach hotel in the Sunny Beach area of Bulgaria. We got a really good all inclusive deal with Thomson since it was rated as a 5 Star hotel. We wanted a relaxing break from our jobs and to spend time together, with an unlimited supply of cocktails and a buzzing night life just a stones throw away from the hotel, Bulgaria seemed like the perfect getaway.
As a group of 20 somethings all with different ideas as to what a relaxing break was, it was quite difficult to actually decide on one place. There were many factors that were important to each of us, and so many options like half board or all inclusive? city break or beach holiday? We were thinking places like  Croatia, Ibiza, Spain, Cyprus/Turkey but all the time we were looking no where really stood out? Then out of no where Bulgaria popped up boasting its resort area of Sunny Beach, known for its low cost of alcohol and food with great places to visit such as the water parks and beaches, we decided to book straight away.
I’m really glad that we did because the Barcelo Royal Beach is a beautiful hotel with luxurious interiors and excellent service from all the staff. The only thing that wasn’t up to the 5 Star rating was the food, their all inclusive offerings provided 1 night at their a la carte restaurant which was interesting and all other nights there was a buffet which was a bit hit and miss. On the plus side there are so many restaurants close by to explore and all rather inexpensive compared to anything in London haha.
For the first few days we didn’t even leave the hotel, with your friends, comfy sun loungers, sunshine and cocktails all day who needs anything else. We ventured out to the beach (i hate sand haha) and to the nearest water park which was awesome. Thunderstorms happened most evenings and a small earthquake at one point. A couple of interesting nights out, a boat party and quickly our week was over, I could have definitely spent another week out there and explored Bulgaria a little more.
I filmed parts of the holiday so decided to make a video for the trip too, hope you enjoyed the images/video and let me know if you’ve been to Bulgaria or plan on going!
Where would you recommend for me to go next?
