5 Places to Visit in Croatia

Towards the end of October me and my boyfriend took a trip to Croatia for a week, It’s a place that I’ve wanted to go for a long time after hearing so many good things about it from family and friends. I can now tell you that it does not disappoint and even though we went ‘out of season’ there was plenty to do and see. I want to give you a bit of an outline of our trip, we flew into Pula, spent 3 days in Rovinj, rented a car and drove for 4 hours to Krka national park then on another 4 hours to Dubrovnik where we got a boat to Kalamota island for 4 days and then flew back to London from Dubrovnik airport. I wish we had more time to drive to places like Zagreb and Plitvice – everything in Croatia is quite spread out so I highly reccomend renting a car as places can be 6-8 hour drives from each other. Lone Hotel – lonehotel.com 

I’d known about the Lone Hotel for quite some time after seeing it on Instagram, being obsessed with futuristic minimal architecture I thought it was something out of this world and couldn’t wait to see it in the flesh. The hotel boasts a truly unique design with incredible restaurants, spacious rooms and an awesome spa. It’s a short walk to the centre of Rovinj and the staff are very welcoming, the design is what really impressed me the most and I definitely reccomend anyone visiting the Rovinj area to stay here, you’ll never forget it.

Rovinj – Rovinj.co

A short walk from the Lone hotel is the centre of Rovinj, an old town filled with traditional restaurants and great coffee spots. Croatia is part of the Istrian peninsula so a lot of the restaurants offer Istrian delicacies like pljukanci and fuži which you just have to try. We had a coffee overlooking the seafront, It’s a very calm and peaceful place where you can spend hours without realising.

Krka National Park – Krka.hr

Again another Instagram dream of mine was to visit Krka National park, over the summer I saw countless images of the breathtaking waterfalls. I must admit Krka is quite difficult to get to, we drove for 4 hours from Rovinj to get to  Lozovac where we could park our car and get a short bus ride into the national park. From there you can take a footpath to explore Skradinski Buk which is where the main waterfalls that I wanted to visit were. You can see more in my Outfit Diary video over on YouTube here. Even though it was a 4 hour drive It’s totally worth it and a must if you’re in Croatia.

Sensimar Kalamota Island Resort – karismaadriatic.com

After Krka we set off for Dubrovnik as our next hotel was on Kalamota Island which was about a 30 minute boat ride from the port of Dubrovnik. We left our rental car in the ports car park which was very reasonably priced. We took a boat taxi to the island and I must say the views were incredible, the whole of Croatia is breathtaking and Kalamota Island is no exception. The Sensimar Kalamota Island resort is a great hotel offering all inclusive deals to make sure you’re fully looked after whilst living that island life. The staff are always ready to help and there’s a real sense of community here as most of the staff live on the island. There are multiple boat trips a day into Dubrovnik which makes it really easy to take a day trip to the city. However you can just surrender yourself to relaxation and stay on the island indulging in the excellent food served by the hotels many restaurants.

 

Dubrovnik Old Town – dubrvonikcroatia.info

I’m a huge Game of Thrones fan so the old town in Dubrovnik was a MUST visit for me. You can sign up to unofficial GoT tours where locals will take you to all the spots where key scenes were filmed. We didn’t get a chance do this as we were quite rushed for time however we did manage to take a trip around the entire wall which you have to do when you’re there and I definitely filmed some of my outfit diary in places I’d seen on GoT haha. The views of the Adriatic sea from the wall are insane, the water is so blue and crystal clear. The old town is also full of gems in terms of restaurants and bars – my favourite find was ‘Azur’ hidden away from the hustle and bustle of the main streets, this restaurant offers a fusion of Asian and Croatian cuisine. 

So there you have it, they’re my top 5 places to visit whilst you’re in Croatia. I’m sure my list would be more extensive if I’d gotten to visit places like Zagreb and Split but I’m sure I’ll be visiting Croatia again next year to check out more of this incredible country. Thank you for reading!
