It’s actually a really funny story that I’m writing a post about ‘How I Stay Motivated’ because It’s one of the things I think I struggle with the most – although it might seem like I’m constantly shooting, writing, filming etc it actually takes a whole lot of motivation to do it. I must be doing it right to some degree but also I get a constant feeling of not being good enough, not working hard enough, not creating enough content etc. However I think peoples perceptions of motivation differ greatly, the only person I compare myself to is me and if I compare my work ethic to how it was last year I know I’m capable of a whole lot more.

Last year I was posting two outfits a week to the blog, daily Instagram posts and working 5 days a week. Now that I work for myself it’s all about that self motivation and sticking to my own schedule. Most of the time I’m the king of procrastination and will literally do anything else other than what I’m supposed to be doing. Whether it be cleaning my room, calling a friend of relative or binge watching YouTube. The biggest thing for me is that I love blogging, posting to Instagram, making YouTube videos etc. I find it, exciting, highly therapeutic and it’s one of the most rewarding feelings to see all your content come together. So I guess the first thing and probably the most important thing is that you have to be genuinely interested in what you’re doing. Whether it’s a hobby, your career or even just an idea. As long as you like what you’re doing you’ll find the motivation – below are a few things that I think about when trying to motivate myself.

Positivity

Staying positive at all times is really important, don’t think about what you didn’t do today instead you should think about what you did do today. Getting anything done is an achievement in itself and positivity is key, being negative about work or hobbies can really get you down. It can send you into a spiralling pit of never getting anything done so beware. One day you’ll say ‘oh I should really do more of that’ or ‘ I should start doing this’ take that as a positive and start doing it! Trust me, staying Positive will help you so much in the long run.

Checkpoints

I set myself goals, I make a lot of to do lists, it all sounds very organised but I assure you it’s not. To be honest it doesn’t really have to organised but I find making a note or having a list, even if it’s just a note on your phone – can really help you prioritise your tasks. Sometimes before I go to sleep I write a list of everything that I have to do the next day, often with a time that I should have done it by – some days not everything gets done and it definitely never goes according to plan but in the end I do get everything done. Knocking everything off that to do list is one of the most satisfying things, these kinds of check points help you break everything down, making your huge goals become smaller, achievable goals.

Rewards

Celebrate your achievements – as I was saying earlier, anything you do is an achievement so don’t forget to reward yourself, whether that be with physical things or just a short break it’s something that you have to do. Rewards keep you going, they can be as big or as small as you like – a few things that I do for example are, make myself a nice meal or get takeout, meet up with a friend for a coffee, sit back, relax  and watch a TV program or a film I’ve been waiting to watch or even treat myself to a new piece of clothing or a short trip away. We work everyday for the majority of our lives, we have to keep ourselves motivated so what’s the point in working if you can’t treat yourself now and again.

Get inspired

Staying Motivated is great but without inspiration or ideas it can get very frustrating. I constantly search through Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest and Tumblr for new ideas, sometimes you’ll find them in the most unlikely places. If you feel like you’re drowning in the same old websites over and over again, which I do feel like has happened recently. I come online, check all the pages I want to check and then that’s it – but sometimes It’s good to explore an area or topic that you’ve not read about before. I occasionally check gaming websites, explore travel destinations and whilst keeping up to date with all my favourite blogs I end up finding new favourites. If you do want to see where I find my inspiration you can read last weeks posts here.
